Epoxy Floor Guide

Application Procedures for Polyamide Epoxy Floor Coating

Step 1 (Optional): 6-7 DAYS PRIOR TO ACTUAL PREPARATION OF FLOOR, IF YOU WANT TO FILL ANY EXPANSION JOINTS OR EXISTING CRACKS IN THE FLOOR, FILL THEM WITH GRAY POLYURETHANE SEALANT AND ALLOW TO CURE FOR THE 6-7 DAYS.

STEP 2:  DEGREASE/CLEAN FLOOR - MIX 1 QUART V60000 WITH 1.25 GALLONS HOT WATER AND SATURATE ANY OIL AND GREASE SPOTS WITH THE SOLUTION.  SCRUB THE AREAS WITH A STIFF BRUSH TO LOOSEN THE OIL AND GREASE, THEN RINSE WELL WITH CLEAN WATER.  ANY STUBBORN AREAS SHOULD BE DONE A SECOND TIME.

STEP 3:  ACID ETCH FLOOR – MIX 1 GALLON CL0300 ETCH WITH 3 GALLONS WATER.  (MAKE SURE TO POUR THE ACID INTO THE WATER!) THIS 4 GALLON MIX WILL ETCH 400 SQUARE FEET.  POUR THIS MIXTURE ACROSS THE FLOOR AND BROOM IT AROUND THE ENTIRE FLOOR OR USE A PLASTIC WATERING CAN TO APPLY THE MIXTURE.  LET IT STAND FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES AND THEN RINSE THOROUGHLY.

STEP 4:  NEUTRALIZE THE ACID – IMMEDIATELY AFTER ACID ETCHING, MIX 1 QUART V60000 WITH 4 GALLONS OF WATER AND POUR ACROSS THE ENTIRE FLOOR, SCRUB AND RINSE THOROUGHLY.  THIS 4 GALLON MIXTURE WILL NEUTRALIZE APPROXIMATELY 400 SQUARE FEET.  LET THE FLOOR DRY COMPLETELY. (APPROXIMATELY 24 HOURS MINIMUM)

STEP 5:  CLEAR SEALER – DRILL MIX, ON SLOW SPEED, ONE GALLON V15500 WITH ONE QUART OF V15590 FOR 4-5 MINUTES. LET THIS MIXTURE STAND FOR 30 MINUTES (THIS IS A VERY CRITICAL WAITING PERIOD!) THIS MIXTURE HAS A 3 HOUR POTLIFE AND WILL COVER UP TO 800 SQUARE FEET. LET DRY FOR A MINIMUM OF 12 HOURS, BUT NO MORE THAN 48 HOURS BEFORE APPLYING FINISH COAT.

STEP 6:  COLOR COAT – DRILL MIX, ON SLOW SPEED, ONE GALLON CV400 POLYAMIDE EPOXY (PART A) IN DESIRED COLOR WITH ONE GALLON OF CV40090 POLYAMIDE EPOXY CATALYST (PART B) FOR 4-5 MINUTES.  LET THIS MIXTURE SIT FOR 30 MINUTES. (THIS IS A VERY CRITICAL WAITING PERIOD!) RE-MIX FOR 1 MINUTE AND APPLY TO FLOOR AT A RATE OF APPROXIMATELY 400 SQUARE FEET PER GALLON. (ANTI-SLIP AGGREGATE MAY BE ADDED TO THE COATING BY HAND BROADCAST METHOD WHILE IT IS STILL WET, BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT THE FINISHED SURFACE WILL BE MORE DIFFICULT TO KEEP CLEAN) IF THIS IS YOUR FINAL STEP LET THE FLOOR DRY A MINIMUM OF 72 HOURS BEFORE SUBJECTING TO TRAFFIC.

STEP 7 (OPTIONAL):  COLORED FLAKES – IF THIS STEP IS DONE YOU MUST APPLY THE FLAKES WHILE THE COLOR COAT (STEP 6) IS STILL WET. (SPIKED SHOES ARE A BIG HELP FOR THIS STEP). HAND BROADCAST OR USE A HAND FERTILIZER SPREADER TO APPLY THE FLAKES AT A RATE OF APPROXIMATELY 100-200 SQUARE FEET PER POUND. LET THE FLOOR DRY 8-24 HOURS BEFORE APPLYING CLEAR COAT (OPTIONAL) OR LET THE FLOOR DRY 72 HOURS IF NO CLEAR COAT WILL BE APPLIED.

STEP 8 (OPTIONAL):  CLEAR FINISH COAT – IF COLORED FLAKES WERE ADDED, THE CLEAR COAT MAY BE APPLIED FOR LONG TERM PROTECTION OF THE COLORED FLAKES.  DRILL MIX ONE GALLON V50000 (PART A) WITH ONE QUART V50090 (PART B) CATALYST FOR 4-5 MINUTES AND LET THIS MIXTURE SIT FOR 30 MINUTES. (THIS IS A VERY CRITICAL WAITING PERIOD!)  APPLY AT A RATE OF 400 SQUARE FEET PER GALLON.  LET THE FLOOR DRY FOR 72 HOURS BEFORE SUBJECTING TO TRAFFIC.

NOTE: A HIGH-QUALITY RESPIRATOR IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR STEPS 6-8
